Project bridge Bergentheim
Commissioned by the province of Overijssel, Royal Haskoning made the design for the new Bergentheim bridge over the Almelo – de Haandrik canal. The bridge was the second of a total of five movable bridges that make way for larger ones, to make the canal suitable for heavier shipping traffic. The design of the bridge is modern and minimalist. Shaping parts of the bridge were abstracted to the extreme. The elements look like loose lines that emerge in the landscape and give substance to the principle of “drawbridge” in an almost Mondrian way. The entire composition is a reference to the orthogonal structure around the bridge.
BBS Industrie BV supplied the Teclite (joint) bearings for all turned parts of this bridge. The project was successfully completed in September 2012.
